WHAT IS ANTISEMITISM
What led me to write this article is the attack that took places this week in Sydney, Australia on the first night of HANUKA that killed fifteen Jews who were celebrating the holiday. Like millions of others , I was shocked., the only word that came to me was « Again? »
Not everyone knows that the word "antisemitism " was invented by an antisemite, Wihemina Marr in 1879. He was the socialist founder of the league of Antisemites His intention was to replace the German name "Judenhass" ( Jew hatred) with a term that would make Jew haters sound less vulgar and even somewhat scientific.
According to the Anti Defamation League, anti-semitism is « the belief or behavior hostile towards Jews, just because they are Jewish.
As for me, my definition , it is a bit different . Anti means against and the word semitism comes from Sem, the first of the biblical Noah's sons, His descendants, Jews and Moslem are called Semites. Sadly with time, it stayed associated to Jews only. With time, to be an anti-Jew became hating Jews. It happened twice . The first time 2000 years ago, when Jews refused to recognize Jesus so Christians hated them and the second time about 1500 years ago when Jews refused to accept Mohamed as the new prophet, so here too Moslems hated them.

Let us remember and look back to history to appreciate how we got to this situation. In the Middle Ages, the Church forbade Christians to lend money, so it became a job for the Jews who were forbidden to practice other professions, thus were forced to become moneylenders. Becoming rich , Jews were hated even more.
Renowned French historian Georges Bensoussan said that antisemitism is a permanent cultural feature of Islamic culture and was dragged into court on charges of racism. These and many other instances raise the question: How much does political correctness serve the Islamist agenda?
Both religions, becoming worldwide and with their majority in terms of population they succeeded in convincing others that they were the right religion that hates the Jews. They became thus anti-semites. This is indeed very sad, but it is a very simple way to tell the story.
All this almost led me to arrive at the theory that as long as there are Jews, there will be antisemitism . If we get rid of Jews, we get rid of antisemitism.
For example, when I die , there won't be anti-semitism as it dies with me, but not for the others who are still alive.
So how can we solve this problem , since it is one that has existed for more than centuries, almost two millennia's. I am repeating myself. The sad aspect of it is that antisemitism is global . It exists everywhere there are Jews and somehow Jews are everywhere.
Many, around the world know about the fact that it is the manifestation of racism towards the Jews. They are a race apart of the mass, they do not respect the same rules as everyone else, they have their own laws. They refuse to est pork, thus they are different.
Sadly, not everyone will take the time to understand them, thus remaining unknown to the masses.
And now, when it comes to America, the fringe of the right-wing of American politics has always had an antisemitic element. A simple example is Pat Buchanan who had a clear animus towards the State of Israel and his followers were not supportive of him because of his hostility.
Today the situation repeats itself: One of the main reasons that Tucker Carlson is so popular is because of his sharp turn against supporting the State of Israel. It seems that we now have a new phenomenon among young Americans. Whether Republicans or Democrats , they support Hamas and accuse Israël of war crimes crime. One can wonder if this is the new fashion.
One can wonder if it is more logical to assume that what was a hidden attitude over the years , it has now become an opinion that is no longer worthwhile to hide. It seems that these days, an anti-Israel attitude can help boost a political pundit's carrer.
Antisemitism, on the left is growing by leaps abd bounds , best showcased by University campuses where all people are allowed to "safe spaces" except Jews who support Israel. And this despicable situation is tolerated by the Universities and accepted by the mainstream left with no protest. That is antisemitism.
After the Pittsburgh massacre, Ben Shapiro made this comment: " People on the right hate Jews because all Jews control the world, like ultra George Soros. And people on the left hate Jews because we control all governments with our " all- powerful Israel lobby.
The world hate has been used twice in this sentence. And people keep asking :" How do you win a war against hatred ? This last word means so much: it is the feeling of one who hates, meaning, disliking intensely or passionately, to detest, to feel an extreme aversion, hostility toward the other. That other today is the Jew. So much so that a new word should be invented since many people do not know what "Semite" means. The new word would be ANTIJEWISM . ( oddly the computer doesn't know that word and underlines it
As for how to win, certainly not by succumbing to sadness and despair. We need a paradoxical intervention. Since hatred hates love, we need to implement love in unity and togetherness. There is nothing more potent against darkness than light , so this should be our attitude. We cannot and should not be weak.
I wish to finish this paper with few remarks made by few Jews.
A. Klarsfeld said: " With the war in the Middle East, Jews are bring singled out as legitimate targets".
Ronald Lauder of the World Jewish Congress said:" One thing that everyone should remember : hatred and intolerance often begin with the Jew, but it never ends with the Jews. Yes, Hitler went after the Jews first, but when it was all over 12 years after he took power in Germany, the entire continent of Europe was in ruin and 60 million human beings have been killed.
Novelist Alphonse Daudet had this to say:" Hatred is the anger of the weak ". And Ambrose Bierce went further, saying: " It is a sentiment appropriate to the occasion of another's superiority ".
I am sad to admit that anti-semitism will never go away . It is the nature of the disease. The rise of internet has magnified anti-semitic incidents from the left and the right.
