WHAT IS A POLYMATH

Yes, what is it?

But first let's mention the following:
We are fooling ourselves thinking that we know more than we actually do.
No matter what the subject is, we are unaware of how it ends, let alone how it came about.

I wish I were an entertaining writer, with a bit of wit. But, I have no polymathic command of any subject.

A polymath is a person with an encyclopedic learning. Someone who has a wide range of knowledge and who learns to think critically. Someone who sees the world with curious eyes.
Let me give you the meaning of the word encyclopedia.

It comes from the Latin ENKYKLIOS PAIDEA, meaning general education

A polymath is able to integrate unique combination of skills and knowledge and transfer this learning across disciplines.

There is a gap between what we know and what we think we know. Our mindset enters in contact with a messy reality. How I wish we were humble enough to comprehend our weaknesses. For What is humility if it is not the character of being humble, modest, without splendor. The word comes from the Latin 'humilis' meaning, 'low, close to the ground'.In a word, it is a mark of respect.

It's about that sense of politeness, of our weakness, that makes us put aside our arrogance, our pride. I am talking about a voluntary abasement, a deference, even submission.
Yes, it seems that there is an insignificance, an inferiority, even a subjugation. And all this may seem very negative, but being respectful is rather positive. A phenomenon of humiliation is never seen negatively because it is not about penitence, indignation or mortification.

If you look closely, you realize how beneficial this attitude can be in the long run. That's why I could bring up so many quotes that will make this word pleasant.

Let's start with Nelson Mandela who said that "honesty, sincerity, simplicity, humility, generosity, absence of vanity, the ability to serve others - qualities that are within the reach of all souls - are the true foundations of our spiritual life.Who can say it better? I like the fact that humility is one of these beautiful qualities.

To go back to the polymath, it is that someone who has expertise or knowledge that spans a vast number of areas. Polymaths are multi-talented, love learning, and excel in several different fields. You can liken them to a Renaissance man (or woman) in the modern day. Although the term wasn't used until the 20th century, it's applied to many of the great thinkers from that period

The term comes from Greek, and means "having learned much."
Polymaths are generalists as opposed to specialists, and solve specific problems by drawing from complex bodies of knowledge. You could also refer to a polymath as a multipotentialite or a multipod.
Here are few Famous Polymaths: Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Benjamin Franklin, Bertrand Russel, Stephen Hawking, and few more… Who wouldn't want to be associated to this group?
