CHILDREN ARE BORN SELFISH
This may seem a harsh statement, but it's unfortunately true. So it's not surprising that as children grow into adults, they retain this attitude, which shapes their behavior.
But why is this so?
I kept looking for an answer, and the closest I came was reading Genesis, chapter 6, verse 5 and chapter 8, verse 21.
I must admit that I have the privilege of reading the Bible in its original language, and that speaking Hebrew helps me to understand it better.
The two verses mentioned above deal with the human heart. The first speaks of the thoughts of his heart that are evil all day long, while the second states that the tendency of man's heart is to evil from his youth.
What do we think?
Yes, schools and their teachers are also part of the answer, but are they doing their part?
Perhaps we should encourage the world to read what all the wise men before us had to say, for they were right most of the time. Here's what one of them had to say about attitude: "A person's unfriendly attitude towards others makes life miserable, both for that person and for those around him. A friendly mood and a loving attitude are like oil that lubricates the wheels of life, making them go smoothly and easily."
Getting back to children, everyone would agree that our generation spoils them too much. It seems that ever since they were born, we've been buying them every possible gadget or trinket, to the point where, if you think about it, we're doing it for ourselves more than for them.
And as they grow up, the phenomenon continues, stuffed toys become electronic objects and so on, to the point where we've made our children expect more and more every day, and when we don't succeed, they rebel, go into a tantrum, make us look bad in the middle of the store, while other parents wonder why we're so mean to our children.
And unfortunately, we don't learn. We have to go back to school. We are now our children's victims. I really don't like this idea. Because the way things are going today, our world is steeped in decadence and horror.
And who's to blame? Me? You?
And if I go back to the Bible, I'll wonder how it is that the Creator, so distressed by his creatures, didn't decide to destroy the entire human race.
