CORRUPTION, THE EVIL OF THE CENTURY

I still remember that in the BEPC class, we learned that the Evil of the Century came from Chateaubriand, when from the top of the Acropolis, he said: ''Everything passes, everything ends in this world...

For me, after having written the PRAISE OF PERFECTION, today, I am in shape to write THE BLAME OF CORRUPTION, which for me is the evil of our poor century. I say poor and with reason when we will see that all is not well. I will perhaps raise an example too personal to prove my words.

Let's see what the dictionary says about this nasty word. It tells us that we have here, the alteration of a substance by putrefaction. This last word is nothing else than the decomposition of an organism deprived of life under the influence of external agents.

It all began with meat, then taste and finally the corruption of a text. This deformation becomes depravity. Thus the morals and the spirit get a taste of it. Thus also, corruption becomes the means to circumvent and divert. So this is how you can divert someone from his duty by bribing him.

I have deliberately chosen these beautiful words to make the reader understand the situation in which we live. Yes, on a daily basis, all over the world, one hears that such and such a minister has received a bribe. The word 'baksheesh' has entered our vocabulary. This Persian word which was originally a tip has become a bribe. This last group of words is that sum of money that someone gives in under hand to the person who allows him to conclude a business deal.

I heard an African student say the other day words that would shock many:
If injustice and corruption did not plague African societies, Africa would be the most powerful continent. How heartbreaking it is to hear such words. Another said that a country of justice is better than a country of corruption.

Now let's look around us to find that country. It is no wonder that a certain Kurt Cobain simply suggested that the duty of youth is to challenge corruption.
Unfortunately, in countries where corruption is rampant, loyalty is a pipe dream. They say that once it's there, you can't get rid of it.

And what about faith in all this?
It saddens me to recall the famous Nietzsche who warned us that Christianity and alcohol are the two greatest agents of corruption. And yet, the Koran says: "Do not sow corruption on the earth.´

There are indeed many corruptions and they all need to be punished. A free people have a government and institutions. These entities have the duty to keep their eyes always open.  Whether it is a question of morals, human values, or insidious ideas, everything is dangerous.

It would be easy to say that the root of corruption is not money but greed which is present in man. I am convinced that each of us at some point in our lives has had some contact with this word.

I mentioned above a personal example of corruption that I have experienced, and to think, it is too early to reveal it. Let's get back to it
