MY ONLY WEALTH IS TIME
Wealth and time are two words of great value. However, the word only also has something to say. In its original sense, only means one who is momentarily without company, such as being all alone, generally isolated, in my case a unique case.
To my regret, the world tends to associate the word wealth with the number of dollars an individual has.
This is not my case. Let me explain:
What is wealth? To put it bluntly, wealth is what the world wants for itself. In other words, to possess money or goods in abundance, to live in opulence. Who doesn't want to be rich?
Time has a duration, a measure and a space. Having time ahead of you means not being in a hurry. Wasting time and doing nothing is one of the most useless things you can do.
Time is there, in front of us, between the past and the future. I have the advantage of doing what I like with my time. Because it's all mine. How many of us remember the good old days?
And now, after these few definitions, I've come to explain my own situation. I've been retired for fifteen years, and with no professional or other occupation, I've taken up reading and writing. Yes, I also read before that, but I didn't write as much. Writing has become my intimate friend, telling it everything that's going on in my head.
I'll confess something very personal: I'm not rich, either today or yesterday in the sense that the world understands. When I asked why, the answer was very simple. "Because you don't like money, why do you want it to come to you? I accepted this answer without being flabbergasted.
That's when I realized that my wealth is time, and it's up to me to do with it what I please. And what I like is reading and writing. Hence the text you have before you. How to make the world understand the value of TIME. I love it so much that I write it in capital letters.
I love proverbs and found an African one that says, "Sit at the foot of a tree and in time you'll see the universe flash before you". I sat down in my garden in front of a small tree on which I had placed bird food. And I could see them coming, feeding and leaving, to be replaced by others. And seeing them, my whole life presented itself to me and the universe began to make sense.
That's how I learned that, with time, it doesn't matter what happens today, because life goes on and things will be better tomorrow. I also learned that "true wealth is not what you accumulate, but what you preserve: your health, your time and your dignity", words I collected from a certain Frédéric Broncard. And as is my custom, I always give credit to the author,
What's the point of having so much wealth if we're poor? Every problem has a solution, which will reveal itself over time. In other words, have patience, let time do its work, knowing that for some, wealth justifies the
